In November, we practiced another fire drill. As we repeat these drills, we learn and practice how to tighten our procedures. Staff practiced adding an additional layer of using our Red / Green folders to account for students who may be in different locations of the building during a drill (for example, speech, OT). We continue to work hard to follow best practices and keep everyone safe. 

The School District of Sheboygan Falls works closely with our Medical Director, Dr. Jenny Brault, to establish guidelines and policies that help protect our students.  Staying up to date on vaccinations is one of the best ways to build up immunity, and protect ourselves and others from serious, and sometimes life-threatening, diseases.  Please see the below message from Dr. Brault about the importance of vaccinations.

Immunizations are one of the greatest achievements in modern medicine. They protect us from dangerous diseases that once caused widespread illness, disability, and death. By getting vaccinated, you not only protect yourself but also help shield those around you—especially infants, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems who cannot be vaccinated.

Vaccines work by training your immune system to recognize and fight specific germs without causing the illness itself. This prepares your body to respond quickly if you are ever exposed to the real disease. Because of widespread vaccination, illnesses like polio and smallpox have been nearly eliminated, and others such as measles and whooping cough are far less common than they once were.

Unfortunately, when vaccination rates drop, these diseases can return. Outbreaks still occur in communities where too few people are immunized. Choosing to get vaccinated is not only a personal decision—it’s a social responsibility. When most people in a community are protected, it creates “herd immunity,” which helps stop the spread of infections and keeps everyone safer.

Vaccines are thoroughly tested for safety and effectiveness before being approved, and their benefits far outweigh the rare risks. Getting immunized is a simple act that saves lives, reduces healthcare costs, and ensures a healthier future for all.

So, roll up your sleeve—protect yourself, protect others, and help keep our communities strong. Immunization is not just a personal choice; it’s a public good.
