A Message from the Principals

October 29th, 2025

Hello Sheboygan Falls Families!

Thank you for continuing to find your family’s path to engagement in your child’s learning, whether that is asking about what they are learning, reading or measuring with them, attending school sponsored events, communicating with school, or staying involved in their social practice.  It takes a village, and families are a child’s first teachers; your excitement for learning means the world to them.

Fall is a very exciting time for children, including some of our local traditions, fall sports, music and drama events, and of course, preparations for the holiday season.  As we celebrate these important pieces, we can also provide a sense of stability and predictability for children by following our routines and schedules against the backdrop of fall fun.

We are excited to have our first bookfair of the year! This will run from November 3rd - 14th. In addition we are excited to offer a special family engagement event, sponsored by Falcon Families -  Coffee with Caregivers! Each grade level, with their caregivers, will be able to attend a special coffee / milk / juice social in the cafeteria and then visit the bookfair!

November also brings our Parent / Teacher conferences on November 6th and 13th, teachers and families come together to share information on student progress, understand the whole child, and have the opportunity to address concerns early.

For November our theme is RESPECT.  School wide we will focus on how we can all show respectful behavior at school, home, and within the community.

Finally, fall is also a great time to learn about engagement through our PTO Group, Falcon Families. Our next meeting is Thursday, November 20th  from 6:15 - 7:30 PM in the SFES library.  We would love to have you come to learn more and possibly find a new way to engage with our school community.

In partnership,

Jen & Jess

Safety Update

In October, we held our first Fire Drill. All of our staff and students did an excellent job evacuating the building in a timely manner.

October was Fire Safety Month, and we once again welcomed our local fire departments (City and Town of Sheboygan Falls) for fire safety education on October 6th.  Have you discussed a fire safety plan for your family at home?  Having a reunification point is a good place to start!

Good Hand Hygiene Helps Prevent the Spread of Illness

Fall and winter are known as "respiratory virus season".  While viruses can spread year-round, we generally see viral activity pick up in October, and it peaks between December and February due to a variety of reasons -

More time indoors: In cold weather, people spend more time indoors in closer contact with others. This increases the chances of viral transmission in enclosed spaces with less ventilation.

Reduced immune defense: Cold air can impair the immune response in the nose, which is the body's first line of defense against airborne viruses. Research shows that a drop in nasal temperature can significantly reduce the ability of immune cells to fight off viruses.

Dry air: Lower humidity in the winter allows viral droplets from coughs and sneezes to remain in the air longer and travel farther.

Lower vitamin D levels: Reduced sunlight exposure in winter can lead to lower levels of vitamin D, which is important for a healthy immune system.

Viruses such as Influenza, COVID, RSV, and Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease are common viruses that are prevalent this time of year.  While the seasonal spread is largely due to the factors above, hand washing is a key preventive measure at all times, especially during respiratory virus season. Good hand hygiene helps prevent viruses from spreading when you touch contaminated surfaces and then touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.

The School District of Sheboygan Falls follows guidelines that are recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention when recommending when it is safe for students to remain in school.  We also consult with our Medical Director and the Public Health Department, to stay informed about current outbreaks and reporting protocols.

We can all help reduce the spread of viral illnesses by remembering to wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, covering coughs and sneezes, avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth, and by staying home if a fever is present (100.4 F or higher).

Wishing everyone a healthy fall and winter season!
