A Message from the Principals

February 26th, 2025
Newsletter

Hello MS Families,

We are already past the halfway point of the third quarter, a great time to log into Infinite Campus and keep up to date with your child(ren)'s academic progress.

As a reminder, the MS “Showcase Night” is next week Thursday, March 6th, this is in lieu of the traditional 10-minute traditional spring conferences.  The students and staff are excited to share the curriculum that has been covered throughout the school year.  Students will be taking their families on a tour throughout the building, going through the different classes they currently have for the second semester.

During the “Showcase Night” there will be an opportunity to purchase dinner (walking tacos) with all proceeds going towards future field trips. Please complete THIS WALKING TACO SURVEY by Friday, February 28th at noon so that we may appropriately plan for the evening.

Thank you for your partnership!

Ryan Zak, SFMS Principal

Lindsey Schreurs, SFMS Associate Principal

Single Referendum Question Proposed to Address Critical Needs & School Improvements

As previously communicated, there will be a single referendum question on the April 1, 2025 ballot addressing the most urgent space and critical capital improvement needs at the elementary school and the safety, aging building systems, and outdated, inefficient learning spaces at the high school.

In direct response to voter feedback, the revised facilities plan has been reduced to a not-to-exceed total project cost of $70 million. The School Board has eliminated the second question proposed in November 2024, which included building a new auxiliary gym, new multi-sport field, and new track for $21.5 million. They have also reduced the first question focused on elementary and high school improvements by more than $8 million by removing space for childcare and further prioritizing projects at both buildings.

The proposed $70 million project includes the highest-priority projects, focused on providing space at the Elementary School, investing in existing buildings, and improving learning environments.

Safety Update

In February, the Middle School conducted an evacuation drill.  An evacuation drill could be used for a water break, electrical issue, or another mechanical malfunction.  The drill consisted of the MS students walking over to the ES gym.  Students and staff did a great job of taking the drill seriously and minimizing time out of the classroom.

Wisconsin State Forward Exam

The Wisconsin State Forward Exam is quickly approaching and will take place after Spring Break with testing dates as follows:

As the weather starts to get warmer, we are reminded that spring allergy season is just around the corner.  Cold symptoms are often similar to allergy symptoms.  Below is a good reference to help determine whether symptoms are cold- or allergy-related which will assist in determining effective treatment.

Stay healthy!
